This game was our shot to even the series against the Detroit Tigers after last night’s abject drubbing. with Zac Gallen taking the mound against Detroit righthander Jack Flaherty. Gallen’s our undisputed ace at this point. For the Tigers, Flaherty is not (we saw that guy last night).
And it was pretty much a pitcher’s duel from the get-go. Gallen pitched around a two-out triple to put up a zero in the first; Flaherty, looking disturbingly ace-like himself, retired us in order, striking out two. Same again in the second: this time Gallen gave up a leadoff double, but then struck out the next three batters he faced.
